Supreme Board Votes $150,000 for Wheelchairs for Haiti; Local, State and Individual Knights of Columbus Haiti Donations top $400,000
At its quarterly meeting on Feb. 6, the Supreme Board of Directors voted to donate $150,000 for the purchase of 1,000 wheelchairs for distribution to those whose limbs have been amputated or have otherwise become disabled in Haiti. The Order will work through the Global Wheelchair Mission to get the wheelchairs to Haiti as soon as possible. The Supreme Council had earlier donated $50,000 to Catholic Relief Services for Haiti relief. In addition, Knights of Columbus donations from state and local councils and from individual members for Haiti earthquake relief exceeded $400,000 as of February 8. Approximately $372,000 of the total came from the United States and more than $29,000 came from Canada. The period during which on-line donations to the United in Charity Fund will be earmarked for Haiti relief has been extended to Feb. 15. Donors may also send checks, which should include the words “Haiti earthquake relief” on the memo line. Donate here.
