One Life, One Rose

Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Run

Knights of Columbus Honours Our Lady of Guadalupe

Our Lady of the Valley Council of the Knights of Columbus participated in a North American, Pro Life event paying special tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, through the Silver Rose Program. This program involves running a Silver Rose from Ontario through the United States to Monterrey, Mexico.

The program began in Ontario and concludes in Mexico on Dec. 12, 2011, the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Rose was received at Our Lady of the Valley Council in Maple Ridge, July 14th, on it's journey through British Columbia. It was carried in procession for the morning Mass at St. Luke's Parish. Immediately following Mass, Father Amador Abundo led us in the special Silver Rose Prayer Service, with the Rose displayed in the Sanctuary, near the Altar.

Shortly after the Prayer Service, the Silver Rose continued it's journey and was delivered to Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Port Coquitlam. The Rose is scheduled to arrive at Star of the Sea Council, in White Rock, on 22nd of July and then cross into Washington State on the 24th of July.

Through the Silver Rose Program the Knights of BC/ Yukon State, show our support for the Church and its bishops and priests as we pray for the continued strength to do so in these troubled times. The Silver Rose also symbolizes our commitment to restoring respect for the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death.  As we think in terms of ‘One Life, One Rose,’  it is most appropriate that we turn to Our Lady of Guadalupe who made known her will through Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses,”  said  Wil  Wilmot , state deputy,  chief executive of the  Knights of Columbus in  BC/Yukon.
